The United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Germany support the Arab Gaza plan, they state in a joint statement according to AFP.
The Arab proposal was presented during a meeting in Egypt's capital Cairo last week. The Egyptian plan, which is said to be an alternative to US President Donald Trump's plans to "take over" Gaza, among other things, stipulates that elections should be held in the Palestinian areas within a year. The countries also want the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the Palestinian umbrella organization PLO to govern in Gaza in the future – and thus replace Hamas.
The proposal has been rejected by Israel and the USA.
The Islamic Cooperation Organization OIC also supports the Arab countries' plan.
"The emergency ministerial meeting in OIC adopted the Egyptian plan, which has now become an Arab-Islamic plan", says Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.
Trump's criticized proposal, among other things, involves relocating all Gaza residents to neighboring countries such as Jordan and Egypt, and transforming the Gaza Strip into "the Middle East's Riviera".
