Vonn won 82 competitions in the World Cup before she decided it was enough five years ago.
But the craving for skiing became too great.
Earlier this fall, she announced that a comeback was on the way – despite having reached the relatively advanced age of 40. And despite suffering several severe injuries towards the end of her career.
As recently as in April, she underwent a knee transplant.
One thing I realize is that life is very short and if you have an opportunity, you have to take it. There's nothing I love more than skiing, says Vonn.
