Official: Jürgen Klopp appointed Germany national team coach

The German Football Association (DFB) has, as expected, appointed Jürgen Klopp as the new head coach of the German national team.

Klopp has previously coached the German teams Mainz and Dortmund, as well as the English club Liverpool, which he left after the 2024 season. Since then, the 59-year-old has not had a coaching job, until now.

Among others, he is bringing Pep Lijnders to Germany, who was his assistant coach at Liverpool and who spent the past season at Manchester City.

The contract with the German federation runs until the summer of 2030.

Klopp is thus leaving his job as global sporting director of Red Bull's football operations, where he had a contract until 2029.

Germany's World Cup campaign was a fiasco after the team was eliminated in the round of 16 by Paraguay on penalties. Following the exit, former national team captain Julian Nagelsmann left.
