The incident occurred in February last year, in connection with a drunk man being apprehended in central Norrköping. The detained man was later convicted of violence and threats against an official, but now the verdict has also fallen for one of the four police officers involved.

The district court writes that he used pepper spray against a "completely defenseless" man and that "the use of violence was neither justified nor necessary". The police officer denied the crime and said that there was a great risk that he would be injured despite the handcuffs, but this is contradicted by the detained man.

In its verdict, the court writes that it assumes that the police officer "will lose his job due to the verdict".

The police officer is also convicted of attempted fraud in another incident. For the crimes, he is sentenced to day fines totaling 16,200 kronor and damages of 10,000 kronor.
