The film lacks many of the elements that make the work so significant, Wilson writes in a review in the London Review of Books.
The film has nothing important to say about memory, time, history or warfare and, according to Wilson, lacks both psychological and emotional depth.
“I would be ashamed if I had written any part of this script,” Wilson writes, adding that the language is overly explicit and the dialogue is humorless and flat. Furthermore, “there are no sex scenes, and all the food looks awful.”
Wilson notes in Nolan's defence that the film has, after all, made more people read - and go to the cinema.
