Earlier this fall, Elvira Öberg showed off her boyfriend for the first time on social media. Oskar Brandt is a former national team colleague and now a coach at Mid Sweden University. He is also the older brother of national team skater Viktor Brandt.
When TT asks Elvira Öberg, in connection with a media meeting in Idre, if she is in a good place in life, she shines.
"I really think I am. I enjoy everyday life incredibly well, I enjoy life very well. I live my best life as a biathlete and I have a good private life too," she says.
She thinks that the fact that her boyfriend belongs to the biathlon family is an advantage.
Of course, it's a sense of security that he knows what everything means and knows what to expect. You don't have to keep explaining things. It becomes very easy.
Premiere this weekend
This weekend is the premiere competition in Idre. Then Elvira Öberg will get her first clue as to whether she trained properly during the preseason, as she has not made any major changes.
It was more that I wanted to continue working on raising my minimum level by trying to take small steps, says Öberg.
Elvira Öberg took her first individual gold at this year's World Cup when she won the mass start, then she also won a silver in the pursuit start. But illness both before and after the World Cup meant that her hopes of winning the overall World Cup disappeared, and she finished fourth.
Öberg is also aiming high for this winter:
I want to be there and fight for the overall World Cup, but I know that a lot is required and a lot has to fall into place for that. Then of course the highlight is the Olympics and that's when you want to be in your best shape.
To the Olympics with lowered shoulders
Elvira Öberg won two individual silver medals (sprint and pursuit start) and was part of the relay team that won Olympic gold in Beijing 2022.
"I think I can go into this Olympics with my shoulders down a little bit. I have my Olympic medals and no one can take them away from me," she says.
She admits that the Olympics are a bit special because they only happen every four years and there is a bit more fuss around the competitions.
But this year we are in an arena that we are used to and the tracks are the same length and the dots are the same size. I don't believe in making it bigger than it needs to be.
