Former US President Barack Obama has indirectly commented on the racist video clip posted by the country's current president, Donald Trump, which depicted the former presidential couple as monkeys.

It was in early February that Trump posted the AI-generated video depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys - something that was met with harsh criticism from both Democrats and Republicans. The White House blamed its publication on an aide, and it was deleted shortly afterwards.

On a podcast, Obama was asked to comment on US discourse, and host Brian Tyler Cohen brought up the monkey video.

"It's important to remember that a majority of the American population finds this behavior deeply disturbing," Obama said in the podcast, according to the BBC.

He also said it was a kind of "clown show" happening on social media and television.

There seems to be no shame about this among people who used to feel they had to have some kind of decency.
