Away against Carolina, Toronto's 28-year-old Swedish forward star scored the 3-0 goal behind Danish goalkeeper Frederik Andersen in the 4-1 win. It was the Swede's 45th goal in 80 matches this season. Nylander has never scored so many goals in the NHL's regular season before. In the 2023-24 and 2022-23 seasons, he reached 40 goals.
Nylander is now five goals away from Håkan Loob's Swedish NHL goal record of 50, which he scored for Calgary in 80 matches in the 1987-88 season.
Toronto has two regular season matches left to play before the Stanley Cup playoffs. Next up is on Wednesday night Swedish time, away against Buffalo.
