It only took a little over 30 seconds before William Nylander struck. A well-directed shot from the higher face-off circle gave Toronto 1–0, which he shortly afterwards followed up with another goal. The latter after an assist by his fellow countryman Oliver-Ekman Larsson.
When we came out on the ice, we got some good scoring opportunities that we could take advantage of, which was nice for us. Now we're focusing on the next match, says Nylander to reporters after the match.
Florida was hot on the heels of the entire match but never quite caught up. The home team Toronto won with 5–4, among other things after another effort by Nylander in the form of an assist, and thus leads the match series with 1–0.
The teams will meet again, also then on Toronto's home ice.
