The rivalry match between Buffalo and Toronto (5–3) offered plenty of Swedish points. Toronto's William Nylander extended his good season start – but was forced to interrupt the match due to injury.

William Nylander extended his scoring streak to five matches with his third goal of the season, set free with a lob pass from Oliver Ekman-Larsson who was credited with two assists.

But Nylander was forced to break the match in the third period after a hard crosschecking from Buffalo's Jason Zucker.

Afterwards, coach Craig Berube had no message regarding the Swedish star's injury and Nylander risks missing Saturday's meeting between the teams in Toronto.

Maybe. We'll see, said Berube.

Nylander has started the Olympic Games season brilliantly with 14 points (3 goals+11 assists) in eight matches and is second in the NHL's scoring league, two points behind Jack Eichel, Vegas.

Svensk-amerikanen Mattias Samuelsson scored two goals for his Buffalo. At the tall defender's second goal, which meant 4–2 to Buffalo, the defensive colleague Rasmus Dahlin was credited with the assist.

William Eklund opened the scoring for San Jose in a 3–1 loss to New Jersey, who won their seventh straight match.

Captain Mikael Backlund scored both a goal and an assist when his Calgary lost 5–3 to Winnipeg.
