The American semiconductor company Nvidia invests 1 billion dollars (equivalent to 9.4 billion kronor) in the telecom company Nokia, writes the Finnish company in a press release.

Nokia will issue over 166 million new shares at a discounted price, which corresponds to 2.9 percent of the ownership in the company.

Nokia and Nvidia now have a strategic partnership to develop sixth-generation mobile telephony using Nvidia chips, and Nokia is also switching to the same chip supplier for fifth-generation telephony.

The two companies will also collaborate on AI-driven network technology.

Nokia's share increased by 20.4 percent since the news arrived on Tuesday afternoon and also pulled its Swedish industry colleague Ericsson to close 2.5 percent plus in Stockholm.
