The announcement comes as one of the world's hottest corporate leaders, Jensen Huang, is visiting Sweden to be awarded an honorary doctorate at Linköping University.
Behind the initiative is the Wallenberg sphere, where a collaboration between their companies and Nvidia will build out the AI infrastructure for the Swedish part.
What's interesting is that different companies are doing this together, says Jensen Huang at a press conference on Campus Norrköping.
Every country needs to build its own AI infrastructure, he continues.
Marcus Wallenberg, chairman of Wallenberg Investments, fills in.
The idea is to build this company together.
Large sums
He doesn't comment directly on how large the investment is, but says it's about "several hundred million kronor".
Investing in AI infrastructure is a crucial step towards accelerating the development and use of AI within Swedish industry. And it has spin-off effects on the Swedish economy and industry, according to Marcus Wallenberg.
According to the press release, they will have access to the latest form of AI chip developed by Nvidia, which will offer the "most powerful AI supercomputer for companies in Sweden".
In connection, a technology and development center for AI will be developed in Sweden, where Nvidia will offer practical training and access to the company's experts. However, it's not clear where in Sweden.
"Sweden is acting"
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) calls it a "sign of strength":
"In Sweden, we're not just talking about applying new technology. We're acting. It's a sign of strength for our country when several leading companies come together to invest in the future. The AI initiative increases our innovation and competitiveness and can inspire more to accelerate the use of AI in Sweden", he says.
Among the companies that will now take part in the technology are Ericsson, Astra Zeneca, and the defense group Saab, as well as the major bank SEB.
Nvidia, with CEO Jensen Huang, has been leading the AI revolution in recent years, and the company has skyrocketed in value on the New York stock exchange. Jensen Huang himself has simultaneously become one of the world's most wealthy corporate leaders.
