It was another employee who called the police after seeing the man inside a patient's room this summer.
The man was arrested and has now been remanded in custody, local media report. He is suspected of raping a seriously ill woman who was being treated in hospital.
The woman died a very short time after the incident, the Prosecution Authority said.
"I assess that the nurse has shown particular recklessness or cruelty based on the fact that the crime was committed when the woman was being cared for in the final stages of her life, completely without the possibility of defending herself, and that the man exploited his position as a nurse," says District Attorney Frida Noldin in a press release.
