The son of the Norwegian Crown Princess is on trial on several counts of rape and assault. But now he is suspected of new violent crimes, including threats with a knife, assault and violation of a restraining order, reports the news agency NTB.
Andreas Kruszewski - a police attorney, which is roughly equivalent to a prosecutor - says, according to Norwegian media, that Borg Høiby was arrested on Sunday.
According to several media outlets, the new allegations concern the so-called "Frogner Woman", Borg Høiby's former girlfriend and one of the plaintiffs in the upcoming trial.
The formal detention hearing will take place on Monday afternoon, but the 29-year-old "bonus prince" is not expected to be present.
The case has shaken the Norwegian royal family to its core. It began to unravel when police received a report of violence at an address in Frogner, Oslo, in August 2024. Borg Høiby was briefly arrested as a suspect for the first time. Since then, a number of other criminal charges have emerged against him.
Marius Borg Høiby is 29 years old and the son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship. Mette-Marit married Crown Prince Haakon in 2001.
Marius Borg Høiby is charged with dozens of different crimes, including assaulting a former girlfriend and four counts of rape.
Borg Høiby faces up to ten years in prison.
