Now it will be decided whether Sweden will advance to the semi-finals of the European Handball Championship. The blue-and-yellow team will conclude their intermediate round against Switzerland.

What: Sweden–Switzerland, the last match in the intermediate round of the European Handball Championship.

Where: Malmö Arena.

When: Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday's other matches: Slovenia–Iceland (3:30 p.m.) and Croatia–Hungary (6:00 p.m.).

Short rest: For the first and only time in this European Championship, the teams will play matches on two consecutive days. Sweden will not even get a day's rest after Tuesday's late match against Hungary.

Late call-up: Sweden added right-back Edwin Aspenbäck on Tuesday as the 19th player in the European Championship squad ahead of the last two matches in the intermediate round.

Group standings: Iceland, Sweden, Slovenia and Croatia all had four points going into Tuesday's matches. The battle for the top two places in the group will now be decided in Malmö.

What's at stake: The top two advance to the semifinals in Herning, Denmark (January 30), where the bronze medal match and final (February 1) will also be played.

Tie-break: If two or more teams finish level on points, the results of their head-to-head matches will decide. Sweden have won against Croatia (33–25) and Slovenia (35–31) but lost to Iceland (27–35). If Sweden beat Hungary on Tuesday, a win over Switzerland would be enough to advance. If Sweden, on the other hand, drop points, they will have to rely on other results.

Previous meetings: Switzerland last beat Sweden in 1992; Sweden have since won 17 straight meetings. However, the sides have only met once when any of today's players were involved. That was at Euro 2020 in Gothenburg, when Sweden won 34–21.

Second group: Denmark have secured qualification, while Germany and France will compete for the other semi-final spot when they meet in the final round.

Sweden's squad:

Goalkeepers: Andreas Palicka, Mikael Appelgren, Fabian Norsten.

Field players: Hampus Wanne, Felix Montebovi, Max Darj, Oscar Bergendahl, Felix Möller, Daniel Pettersson, Sebastian Karlsson, Jonathan Carlsbogård, Eric Johansson, Nikola Roganovic, Felix Claar, Jim Gottfridsson, Axel Månsson, Albin Lagergren, Lukas Sandell, Edwin Aspenbäck.

National team captain: Michael Apelgren.
