Now it will be decided whether Sweden will reach the semi-finals of the European Handball Championship. Blue and yellow finish the intermediate round against Switzerland, but they no longer have their fate in their own hands.

What: Sweden–Switzerland, the last match in the intermediate round of the European Handball Championship.

Where: Malmö Arena.

When: Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday's other matches: Slovenia–Iceland (3:30 p.m.) and Croatia–Hungary (6:00 p.m.).

In trouble: After a draw against Hungary (32–32) on Tuesday night, Sweden no longer have it in their own hands when the intermediate round ends against Switzerland. To reach the European Championship semi-finals, Sweden must rely on Croatia or Iceland dropping points before Sweden's match. The top two go through to the semi-finals.

Group standings: 1) Croatia 6 points (+1 goal difference), 2) Iceland 5 points (+8), 3) Sweden 5 points (+4), 4) Slovenia 4 points (–2), 5) Switzerland 2 points (–7), 6) Hungary 2 points (–4).

What applies: If two or more teams end up on the same points, the results of their head-to-head matches will decide. Sweden have won against Croatia (33–25) and Slovenia (35–31) but lost to Iceland (27–35).

Short rest: For the first and only time in the European Championship, the teams will play matches on two consecutive days. Sweden will not even get a day's rest after Tuesday's late match against Hungary.

Late call-up: Sweden signed right-back Edwin Aspenbäck on Tuesday as the 19th player in the European Championship squad ahead of the last two matches in the intermediate round.

What's at stake: The top two advance to the semi-finals in Herning, Denmark (January 30), where the bronze medal match and final (February 1) will also be played.

Previous meetings: Switzerland beat Sweden in 1992; Sweden have since won 17 straight meetings. However, the teams have only once met when some of today's players were involved. That was at Euro 2020 in Gothenburg, when Sweden won 34–21.

Second group: Denmark have secured advancement, while Germany and France will compete for the other semi-final spot when they meet in the final round.

Sweden's squad:

Goalkeepers: Andreas Palicka, Mikael Appelgren, Fabian Norsten.

Left wing: Hampus Wanne, Felix Montebovi.

Left back: Max Darj, Oscar Bergendahl, Felix Möller.

Right back: Daniel Pettersson, Sebastian Karlsson.

Pivots/line players: Jonathan Carlsbogård, Eric Johansson, Nikola Roganovic.

Centre/backcourt: Felix Claar, Jim Gottfridsson, Axel Månsson.

Right wing: Albin Lagergren, Lukas Sandell, Edwin Aspenbäck.

Head coach: Michael Apelgren.
