Danish Novo Nordisk is suing its largest competitor, American Eli Lilly, for misleading advertising.

The lawsuit, which is being filed in federal court in the United States, concerns advertising for the drugs Zepbound and Mounjaro. According to Novo Nordisk, it is based on old and irrelevant comparisons of demonstrated weight loss with the Danish company's own weight-loss drugs.

The Eli Lilly advertisement states that patients lost an average of just over 22 kilograms, while patients who used Novo Nordisk's Wegovy lost an average of 15 kilograms.

Novo Nordisk says in its lawsuit that it is more accurate to compare two studies in which the weight loss is essentially identical.
