Novak Djokovic Knocked Out by Hubert Hurkacz in Shanghai Masters Opener

The success at the ATP tournament in Beijing was followed by a letdown. Tennis star Novak Djokovic was knocked out in his opening match at the Shanghai Masters by Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz.

The Serb lost in straight sets to Hurkacz just three days after beating Alex de Minaur in Beijing. De Minaur had to retire from the ATP tournament final after injuring himself.

"I didn't recognize myself on the court," Djokovic said after the match.

It's a super-fast surface, completely different from Beijing. If you lose your serve, it's enough to lose the match.

Djokovic is the most successful men's player of all time, with 24 Grand Slam titles, but has had a tough 2026, with a significant drop in the world rankings.
