On the tenth anniversary of the worst terrorist attack in France during peacetime, the bells of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris rang in honor of the victims.

130 people were killed in the coordinated attacks on the Bataclan concert hall and a street café that paralyzed the capital. Two more people who survived the attacks but later took their own lives were honored with the bell ringing, according to the Paris diocese.

The terrorist movement ISIS was behind the attacks in a wave of acts that struck several major cities in Europe in the months that followed.

Since then, IS has had its wings severely clipped in Europe and lost its foothold in Syria and Iraq, where the extremist Islamist movement sought to create a caliphate through acts of violence, terror and warfare.

But the threat of terrorist attacks remains. An intervention related to the attack ten years ago took place on Thursday, and French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez says six planned terrorist attacks have been thwarted so far this year.
