"We have made good progress (...) but there is still some way to go," writes German Social Democrat Bernd Lange, chairman of the European Parliament's Trade Committee, after the latest attempts at compromise on Thursday evening.
New talks are to be held on May 19, in the hope of agreeing on an EU position on the deal reached between Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and US President Donald Trump last summer.
The deal effectively means that the EU will accept 15 percent tariffs on almost all goods from the US. At the same time, there has been great skepticism given Trump's numerous other trade threats and his demands to take over Greenland.
