"Russia's extensive attacks on Gammelsvenskby are not only an attack on Ukraine but also on Swedish culture," said Minister of International Development Cooperation Benjamin Dousa (M) in a press release.

The money comes from the development aid budget and will go towards preserving the cultural heritage of the Ukrainian Gammelsvenskby, which was founded in 1782 by Swedes who were forcibly relocated from the Estonian island of Dagö.

The Swedish government's 10 million will be distributed over three years and will go towards both urgent needs and longer-term development of the village, the government writes. The support will be distributed through Gotlands Museum, which already collaborates with the village.
