Amrit Kaur – who leads the party Rødt's youth association Rød ungdom – shortly after the news of death posted a video clip in social media where she with sarcastic tone says that it is "so boring" that Kirk is dead and continues:
What happened to democracy? Oh no.
The recording was posted on Tiktok, but was deleted shortly thereafter. Kaur says to various Norwegian media that she was "carried away" and does not support murder of opponents.
It is not enough for the mother party. In a press release, chairman Marie Sneve Martinussen writes that the leadership expects Kaur to resign, reports NRK. The leadership has tried to show understanding, especially considering Kaur's young age, "but somewhere the limit must go", writes Martinussen.
Earlier, she emphasized to VG that Rødt takes "strongest possible distance" from all forms of violence and murder.
It does not belong anywhere to joke about such things. Kaur should never have done that, said Martinussen to VG.
The youth association's vice chairman Ahmed S Al-Saedi has already announced his resignation due to the clip.
Rødt received just over five percent of the votes in the weekend's parliamentary election.
