We cannot rule out Russia grabbing a piece of land as part of its plan to protect its nuclear weapons capability, which is the only thing it has left that actually threatens the United States.
This is what Norway's Chief of Defense Eirik Kristoffersen says in an interview with The Guardian.
He admits that Russia hardly sees Norway as a legitimate target, as it does Ukraine and other former Soviet states, but protecting its nuclear facilities on the Kola Peninsula is of strategic importance to Russia.
These facilities become strategically important in a conflict with NATO and must be protected, says Kristoffersen.
They want to ensure the capacity to respond to an attack is protected. That is a scenario in the Arctic region that we are planning for.
