Has the video assistant referee system VAR done its part in Norwegian football? The clubs hope so. On Wednesday, the top clubs' interest organization – the equivalent of Swedish Elite Football (Sef) in Sweden – voted to scrap VAR in the Norwegian top division for men, Eliteserien.

The organization's chairman Cato Haug says to the news agency NTB that the majority of the 32 elite clubs on the men's side voted to ask the Norwegian Football Association (NFF) to abolish the system.

VAR was introduced in Eliteserien in the 2023 season and has since been highly debated, fiercely debated, and heavily criticized by many.

According to NTB, the NFF is expected to present its stance on the proposal at a press conference next week.
