Norwegian running star Jakob Ingebrigtsen has undergone surgery on his Achilles tendon. He confirmed on social media. It is unclear when the 25-year-old will be able to compete again.

Ingebrigtsen writes on Instagram that he has suffered an Achilles tendon injury in recent years.

"The surgery went very well and I am relieved to have a clear path back after many months of uncertainty," he writes.

How this will affect the indoor season or the star's training schedule ahead of this summer's European Championships is unclear. Norwegian national team doctor Ove Talsnes expects it will take at least three months before Ingebrigtsen can start running again.

"The result of the operation will be known when he is back running. There is usually a good prognosis for similar operations," he tells VG.
