A request has been sent to the Oslo District Court for his release, Høiby's lawyer Ellen Holager Andenæs tells Aftenposten.
The request will be handled in writing. It is not clear at this stage on what grounds it has been made.
Marius Borg Høiby, 29, is the son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship. He is on trial for 38 crimes, including assaulting a former girlfriend and four counts of rape.
Høiby was arrested the day before the trial began after he was suspected of further violence and threats, and of violating a restraining order. In court, he has admitted certain crimes, but denied the rape charges.
