It goes against both the Progress Party's policies and our view of humanity, said Listhaug at the party's national conference.

It was in conversation with journalists from Norwegian TV2 that FRP's Hårek Hansen spoke about Pakistanis as "minus variants" who should not have more children in Norway. On the other hand, he believed that "successful white people" should reproduce more.

Hansen claims that the statement was "meant as humor and childish provocation" and that he had been drinking at the time.

"It was vulgar and stupid drunkenness, which I distance myself from," he writes in an email to TV2.

Hansen is a political advisor to Member of Parliament Simen Velle, who tells NRK that it is important to distance oneself from racism.
