Norwegian People's Aid lost 400 million Norwegian kroner as a result of last week's US boycott. This puts 1,700 jobs at risk.

Since then, support has poured in, with 370 new members, over 550 new regular donors and almost 3 million Norwegian kroner in donations.

"It shows that saying no to the US and (President Donald) Trump's demands has great resonance in Norway," writes the organisation's communications manager Gry Ballestad to Panorama Nyheter .

The American money was rejected due to the conditions imposed by the US State Department.

“The US is trying to dictate that we stop working for equality and diversity,” said Secretary-General Raymond Johansen in a press release last week.
