A Norwegian newspaper was deceived in the middle of election night and published an interview with a person who was claimed to be Ola Svenneby, leader of the party Høyre's youth association.

The interviewee has since turned out to be an imposter.

"Østlendingen made an interview on Monday evening that we believed was with the youth leader Ola Svenneby about his ambitions to take over after Erna Solberg", writes editor-in-chief Tom Haakenstad in the local newspaper Østlendingen on Tuesday.

"We were deceived, it is our responsibility and we apologize deeply."

He emphasizes that it is the newspaper's responsibility to check sources and phone numbers. In this case, the editorial office is said to have received an incorrect number from what one believed was a source within the party.
