Together with his organization, Free Ukraine, Conservative Party MP Peter Frølich tried to send a number of drones equipped with thermal cameras on a ferry in 2023, but Norwegian customs stopped them because it was illegal under a law dating back to the 1950s.
Frølich then contacted the government directly, stressing that the situation was urgent and that delays could cost Ukrainian soldiers their lives.
Somehow, Free Ukraine managed to get the drones into the war-torn country. The next day, the organization heard from the Norwegian government that it would expedite its handling of the issue. The rules were eventually changed, and Norwegians can now send civilian drones to Ukraine.
Frølich does not regret breaking the law.
