A guard who previously worked at the US embassy in Oslo is sentenced to prison for espionage for Russia and Iran.

The 28-year-old man has admitted that he shared information with both Russia and Iran but has denied the crime, since he does not consider the information to have been secret.

The man is sentenced for gross espionage to the benefit of a foreign state, to three years and seven months in prison, reports NRK.

At the same time, he is acquitted of charges of gross corruption.

The prosecution had requested six years in prison. According to the court, the information that the man shared "can not only harm American security interests, but also Norwegian fundamental national interests”.

The guard himself has stated that the stance that the American embassy has taken in the conflict between Israel and Hamas led to him contacting both Russia and Iran.
