A favourable Norwegian exchange rate and reduced Swedish food VAT are pointed out as possible explanations by Nets marketing director Randi Mårdalen.

The 10 percent increase in Strömstad was measured over a five-week period from the end of June to the beginning of August, when almost one million transactions were made, averaging 739 Norwegian kroner.

The survey included purchases in stores, restaurants, hotels and other businesses - but not at Systembolaget.

Norwegians account for approximately 95 percent of trade in Strömstad, according to Nets.
