A Norwegian man in his 30-40s is suspected of the double murder in Gothenburg earlier in the week. According to information to Norwegian TV2, he was arrested after a dramatic car chase in Oslo on Wednesday night. We are waiting for him to be handed over to Sweden, says prosecutor Karin Lindell.

It was on Tuesday afternoon that two men in their 30s were found shot dead in a car in the Lunden district of Gothenburg. The suspected man was arrested already during the night according to TV2, after a dramatic car chase in central Oslo.

Sofie Konkell, preliminary investigation leader at the police in Gothenburg, confirms that the man is suspected of the double murder.

We cannot tell you much yet. But it's about a man in his 30-40s with Norwegian citizenship, she says to TT.

He is suspected of the crimes we are investigating, i.e. the two murders, but is formally detained for other crimes in Norway.

Dramatic car chase

According to Norwegian media, the man denies the Swedish suspicions. Among others, NRK reports that he is previously known to the police and has been convicted of several drunk driving offenses. The man was arrested on Thursday and can thus be detained for four weeks, reports the news agency NTB.

The arrest became dramatic.

The man drove away from a customs control at Svinesund at 23.15 on Tuesday evening, according to TV2. Later, he was discovered by a police patrol in central Oslo and was finally arrested in a parking garage after a car chase.

The Norwegian crime suspicions against him include that he, in connection with the arrest, allegedly threatened the police with a pistol.

The goal is that he will be extradited to Sweden. According to chief prosecutor Karin Lindell, it will likely take some time, however.

We hope it can happen relatively quickly, at least within a week, she says.

How the suspicions against the man look more concretely, the Swedish investigators do not want to go into.

I do not want to comment on that or the investigation further right now. We are still in the beginning of a very extensive preliminary investigation, says Karin Lindell.

Ongoing gang conflict

There are no other suspects in the case at the moment, according to Sofie Konkell.

But we are a large team that sits and works with this unabated, so we cannot rule out that additional suspects will be added, she says.

The double murder in Gothenburg on Tuesday evening is believed to be linked to the ongoing gang conflict in Biskopsgården.

In April this year, two men were shot dead in connection with a parking lot in Biskopsgården. Even that double murder is believed to have links to the conflict in the district.
