On Tuesday evening, two men in their 30s were found shot dead in a car in the Lunden district of Gothenburg. Already the same night, according to TV2 a suspected man was arrested, after a dramatic car chase in central Oslo.

Sofie Konkell, preliminary investigation leader at the police in Gothenburg, confirms that the man is suspected of the double murder.

We cannot tell you much yet. But it's about a man in his 30-40s with Norwegian citizenship, she says to TT.

He is suspected of the crimes we are investigating, i.e. the two murders, but is formally detained for other crimes in Norway.

Dramatic car chase

The man first drove away from a customs control at Svinesund at 23.15 on Tuesday evening, according to TV2. He was then discovered in central Oslo by a police patrol at 1 am and was finally arrested in a parking garage after a dramatic car chase.

Ole Kristian Holtsmark, prosecutor at the Norwegian police, tells TV2 that the man is suspected of, among other things, weapons offenses. A detention hearing will be held in the Oslo District Court at 1 pm on Thursday.

The goal is that the man will then be extradited to Sweden. However, according to chief prosecutor Karin Lindell, it will likely take some time.

So far, he is detained for other crimes in another country. But we are waiting to get him handed over to Sweden, says Karin Lindell.

We hope it can happen relatively quickly, at least within a week.

How the suspicions against the man look more concretely, the Swedish investigators do not want to go into.

I do not want to comment on that or the investigation any further right now. We are still in the beginning of a very extensive preliminary investigation, says Karin Lindell.

Ongoing gang conflict

However, there are no other suspects in the case at the moment, according to Sofie Konkell.

But we are a large team that is working on this relentlessly, so we cannot rule out that additional suspects will be added, she says.

The double murder in Gothenburg on Tuesday evening is believed to be linked to the ongoing gang conflict in Biskopsgården.

In April this year, two men were shot dead in connection with a parking lot in Biskopsgården. The double murder is also believed to have links to the conflict in the district.
