RTVE president José Pablo López will propose a continued Spanish boycott of Eurovision to the public service broadcaster’s board, stressing that one cannot witness the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza "without a firm and strong condemnation."
Now the Norwegian public service broadcaster NRK has also sent a letter to the EBU, signed by entertainment director Jostein Olseng and Norwegian head of delegation Mads Tørklep, arguing that Israel's participation is problematic. They raise the issue of an unpleasant atmosphere, influence campaigns in the vote and fundamental values.
“The recurring controversies surrounding Israel’s participation and the broader impact on the public’s perception of the competition warrant careful scrutiny,” the executives write.
They believe that it is not NRK's role to demand a boycott, but are putting forward a number of demands for further rule changes.
