Norwegian actor Sverre Anker Ousdal, known for "Mio min Mio", among other roles, has died. "Perhaps Norway's greatest actor of all time has now passed away," Nationaltheatret director Kristian Seltun told Verdens Gang.

Sverre Anker Ousdal is known in Norway as one of the country's leading actors, especially in the theatre.

To Swedish audiences, he is best known for his film and television appearances. Sverre Anker Ousdal starred, among others, in "Mio min Mio", "Falsk som vatten", "Ingenjör Andrées luftfärd", "Sånt är livet" and "Alla älskar Alice".

He was employed at the National Theatre between 1970 and 2014, when he retired. This spring, there had been plans for him to make a comeback at the Oslo Theatre.

"Dad meant everything to us and to many others. An anchor is gone," said his son Mads Ousdal, himself an actor, to VG.

Sverre Anker Ousdal was 81 years old.
