"My biggest victory so far. Unbelievable," says the Norwegian in the HBO Max broadcast.
The average speed on the stage was 50.91 kilometres per hour, the fastest road stage in the history of the race.
Wærenskjold's victory came as a bit of a surprise. On Tuesday, he crashed badly and was one of the very last to finish.
But with 100 kilometres left in today's stage, he needed a new bandage on the hand he injured in the crash.
"I felt crappy at the start of the stage, but my body got better during the day. In the sprint I thought I was too far back, but suddenly it opened up. This is a big surprise," says the winner.
