"The Queen is suffering from atrial fibrillation and heart failure and has been hospitalized for a few days for examinations and observation," the Norwegian royal family wrote in a press release.

On Sunday, the royal family announced that the Queen had been on sick leave for a week due to her heart problems.

Last year, Queen Sonja was taken by ambulance helicopter from Prinsehytta in Sikkilsdalen, where she and King Harald spent the Easter weekend, to Rikshospitalet for examinations due to shortness of breath.

In January 2025, she had a pacemaker implanted.
