The Queen was picked up by an ambulance helicopter at the mountain cabin Prinsehytten, which is located in Jotunheimen. The royal family had spent the Easter weekend there.

At lunchtime on Tuesday, the Norwegian royal court announced that the Queen had been discharged.

"Examinations show that the situation has normalized. The Queen will be on sick leave for the rest of the week", it states.

Queen Sonja, who is 87 years old, had a pacemaker implanted in January after experiencing heart palpitations during a skiing trip. The procedure was later reported to have been successful.

Even 88-year-old King Harald has had a pacemaker. It took place in March last year after he fell ill during a vacation in Malaysia.
