Besides trade and commerce, the meeting will also deal with the security policy situation, NATO, and the war in Ukraine.

This is the first time Støre meets Trump in person, they have only spoken over the phone. Støre says that the invitation to the White House shows that the USA sees Norway as an important cooperation partner.

Norway has ongoing and close contact with the USA, but it is clear that it makes a difference to meet Trump in a direct conversation about important issues in his office, says Støre to VG.

Stoltenberg, former NATO chief, is currently in Washington for meetings with the World Bank and has also been invited.

From my previous cooperation with President Trump, I have learned that it is useful to also raise questions where the USA and Europe may have different opinions. It can contribute to increased understanding and the possibility of finding solutions, says Stoltenberg to the newspaper.

Finland's President Alexander Stubb met Trump in Florida at the end of March when they played golf for several hours. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has not had a private meeting with Trump since he became president.

Leaders from these countries have met President Donald Trump this year:

The United Kingdom, France, Israel, Ukraine, Ireland, India, Jordan, Finland, El Salvador, Japan, Italy (last week).

NATO's Secretary-General Mark Rutte has also met the president.
