The King has been treated with cortisone for hemolytic anemia, a form of anemia, in recent weeks. According to the court, this has led to fluid accumulation in the body that requires treatment in hospital.

The 89-year-old King Harald was hospitalised earlier in August, according to the court, for a planned check-up.

King Harald was hospitalised in February while on holiday in Tenerife. He had suffered from a skin infection on his leg and dehydration.

In March 2024, he received a pacemaker after falling ill while on holiday in Malaysia.
