Norway, who also beat Tre Kronor earlier in the tournament, had a best finish of fourth place in the championship. Now their neighbors have done even better in Zurich, Switzerland. In the bronze medal match against Canada, which included, among others, Sidney Crosby and Macklin Celebrini, they won and secured the World Cup bronze.

Djurgård forward Mathias Emilio Pettersen gave the Norwegians the lead in the first period. Then 20-year-old Stian Solberg extended the lead to 2–0 in the second period.

Canada pushed for a draw in the closing stages of the game through Robert Thomas. Thomas stepped up again to make it 2–2 with seven seconds remaining in dramatic fashion.

In extra time, Noah Steen stepped up and scored with a huge shot, and wild cheers erupted as many could not believe what had just happened. In the Norwegian media, the feat was described as a miracle and the players themselves had difficulty describing their feelings.

It's crazy. We wouldn't have even dared to dream of this. We're facing Canada, which has world stars in every position. It's absolutely crazy. I'm so proud of what we've achieved, says Eskild Bakke Olsen to VG.

In Canada, which has 28 World Cup gold medals, there were gloomy faces.

It feels like shit, says Mark Scheifele to Aftonbladet.
