Disaster start in World Championship qualifying has a direct negative impact on the world ranking. The men's national football team loses three places – and is now outside the top-30. At the same time, Norway slips past and reaches its best placement in twelve years.

Slovenia's late equalizer in the 2–2 match in Ljubljana and the crash landing in Kosovo – a loss with 0–2 – a few days later means that Sweden's chance of winning their qualifying group has decreased significantly.

Switzerland tops the group (the winner goes directly to the finals next year) with six points and advances to 17th place in the ranking.

Jon Dahl Tomasson's national team drops to 32nd place – and has both Denmark (20) and Norway (31) ahead of it on Fifa's list.

Norway, which has had a dream start in the World Championship qualifying, has advanced seven places in two months.

Spain tops the ranking, ahead of France, Argentina and England.
