The ship has been seized at the port of Barentsburg following a court order from Nord-Troms og Senja District Court, the company states on its website.

Since 2016, Naftogaz has been pursuing legal proceedings against Russia to obtain compensation for properties confiscated when Russia annexed Crimea in 2014.
The seizure of the ship, which is called Professor Molchanov and is used for commercial expedition cruises, is described by Naftogaz as part of a global effort to ensure that Russia fulfills its obligations.
