The USA had a strong grip on the match. Leading 4–1, where Norway had scored a reducer through Stian Solberg, familiar from Färjestad.
In the second act, the Americans could extend their lead to 5–1 – but then the Norwegians would come to life.
With one and a half minutes left of the match, the 5–5 goal came through the aforementioned Stian Solberg. The goal was his third, as he had also started the comeback with the 5–2 reducer.
Örebro player Noah Steen also signed himself into the goal protocol for Norway when they managed to take a surprising point against the powerhouse USA.
Well into overtime, the Americans would draw the longest straw through a power play goal by Tage Thompson – also his third in the match.
Norway thus took their first point in this year's World Championship.
