Norway firmly denies that the country will host a gathering for Donald Trump's "peace council" - which Trump himself has claimed.

When the US president inaugurated his "peace council", he said that Norway would host a meeting under the council's umbrella.

The Norwegian side questions that information, saying Norway "has clearly conveyed that we will not become members of the Council and this position has not changed."

Trump was probably referring to a completely different meeting, spokesperson Ane Jørem told NTB.

"Norway will invite participants to the next meeting of aid donors for Palestine in the AHLC group this spring," she wrote, adding:

"The US is, together with the EU, the vice-chair of the group that has existed for a long time. We are in contact with the US about how we can discuss the peace plan for Gaza."
