"I have been thinking about this since day one as Prime Minister," Jonas Gahr Støre of the Labour Party told NTB.
A bill will be presented to the Norwegian Parliament before the end of the year and the law is expected to come into force in 2027. People will not be allowed to use Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat in Norway until the year they turn 16.
The aim is to prevent children from being influenced by addictive algorithms and manipulative advertising, but also from being "groomed" and exposed to recruitment attempts by criminals, NTB writes.
According to Støre, it is unreasonable to expect a child's brain to withstand a development driven by the world's best "computer brains".
