After a brilliant Olympic Games last time in China, Norway has the goal of bringing home 35 medals in the Winter Olympic Games in Milan/Cortina in February.

This was stated by Tore Øvrebø, head of the Olympiatoppen, when he met the press in Oslo on Wednesday morning. There are 100 days left until the winter games in northern Italy.

Prior to the Winter Olympic Games 2022, the medal target was 32, and it ended with 37. Now, the target has been raised to 35.

It is both demanding and realistic, says Øvrebø.

During the games in China, Norway set a record with 16 gold medals – the most number of gold medals ever won by a nation in an Olympic Games.

Four years later, the Norwegian team will be without gold medalists such as Therese Johaug, Marte Olsbu Røiseland and Johannes Thingnes Bø, at the same time as stars like Johannes Klæbo, Harald Østberg Amundsen and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde are all expected to fight for medals.

When there is more space at the top, it is some others who will succeed in taking it, says Øvrebø.

The Olympic Games will take place from February 6 to 22. Norway plans to send around 80 athletes to the championship.
