Northug on the Norwegian star: "Many are worried"

The Norwegian skiing legend Petter Northug is worried about Kristine Stavås Skistad after her stomach operation. Many are worried. Now I don't know how serious it is, but it's very sad to get this news, he says.

The Norwegian national team confirmed earlier this week that Kristine Stavås Skistad will miss both the season opener in Beitostølen and the World Cup premiere in Rukka.

It is unclear when she can return.

I think Skistad would like to be back earlier. We would like to see her in Beitostølen. How long does it take before she's back at the start? There are probably many who will get worried, at least if we get into 2025 before she takes herself into a World Championship on home soil, says Northug.

After the stomach operation, which the team doctor has described as relatively acute, Skistad is facing rehabilitation.

It's definitely a major setback. At least when it comes to the stomach area. Such rehabilitation often takes some time and it's something that is actively used within cross-country skiing, says Northug.

Last season, sprint specialist Skistad took eleven podium places in the World Cup. She won five of the competitions.
