Authorities in North Macedonia are closing a large number of nightclubs that lack licenses. The safety control of entertainment establishments is being carried out after the severe fire at a concert in the small town of Kocani on Sunday, when 59 people died.
The government's spokesperson Marija Miteva says that 22 out of 50 entertainment venues inspected in several cities lacked necessary permits.
16 people are still detained for questioning after the fire that broke out when fireworks ignited the ceiling. The nightclub Pulse was characterized by local media as a "temporary" party venue without necessary permits.
North Macedonia, with around two million inhabitants, has declared a week of national mourning after the tragedy.
