North Korea fired a ballistic missile on Monday, according to the South Korean military.
The launch comes just hours before US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrives in Seoul for a meeting with his South Korean counterpart and South Korea's acting president.
According to the Japanese Defense Ministry, the missile landed in the sea.
The missile launch is the first this year for Pyongyang. The previous one took place in November, when they claimed to have test-fired their most advanced and powerful intercontinental ballistic missile, with solid fuel.
