North Korea has begun building a memorial for the country's soldiers who have died in Russia's war against Ukraine, reports the state-controlled news agency KCNA.

The monument is being built in the capital Pyongyang. Dictator Kim Jong-Un calls it "a sacred sanctuary dedicated to the immortality of true patriots", while he praises the relations with Russia.

North Korea has sent thousands of soldiers to Russia to help the country get Ukrainian forces out of Russia. According to South Korean estimates, at least 600 North Korean soldiers have been killed and thousands injured in the Ukraine war.

North Korea has become one of Russia's most important allies since President Vladimir Putin launched the large-scale offensive war in Ukraine in February 2022.
